Supporting and promoting the best UK artists, designers and makers

Well I am officially giving up on Etsy, I have had a few views but after a month and a bit and a solid week of hard work I am still no better off, so after throwing away about £8 in listing fees I am beat.

I was given the advice of trying MISI instead as it is a uk based site whereas Etsy is an American site and therefore mainly serves international customers.

So I set up my MISI shop and waited, within a few days I have received quite a few views on my items and now I am just waiting for my first sale, I must say I have enjoyed setting up my MISI much more than my Etsy.

So same question again, any hints, tips or ideas on how to turn views into actual sales?

Please feel free to take a look at my MISI store, I always appreciate constructive criticism.

Hi, I'm going to cancel my Misi store (before I actually get anywhere with it !)- I paid for a store banner eight days ago and have had no further contact from anyone. I can't deal with the web pages on Misi either, they are too pale for my liking - I cant see the boxes to fill in !!I dont think its my system as every other website I look at is OK.

I've had a further sale on Etsy and several sales on eBay in the last two weeks.

Will definately look into Facebook this weekend.

Just going to have a look now.  You know since they bought in region settings my views fell through the floor.  My website used to have paltry views in comparison to my etsy shop, now though my site has picked up and makes my etsy shop look pathetic, so I totally get where you are coming from.  I totally blame to region settings though, I was doing really well before that and can almost pinpoint it to the day of the change coming in.  So good luck with your new store, let us know how it goes.  Just off to have a peek now.

I am very pleased with my new baby cards if I do say so myself, lol.

I have a facebook page and don't spend anything on advertising, I just set up the page as way of showing my friends what I am doing as they are my biggest customers, but I did get a £25 voucher for advertising from facebook as a well done for setting up my page, I'm guessing everyone gets one as an incentive to actually spend on advertising which I don't plan to do, but I will take advantage of the voucher, lol.

No - not yet. I did look into having a business page as someone on here suggested and started filling the page out until it started asking me how much I wanted to spend on advertising. I think I will just do a normal facebook page and put links and comments and photos on my page/wall etc (I've not really looked into facebook yet). It cant do any harm.

I showed your site to some women I was in an office with yesterday and they all commented favourably on the new baby 3D cards you are advertising. :)

well done you, i'm really pleased for you, my faith is renewed, lol.

I made the decision to close my etsy account last night, so here's hoping MISI will have some success for me.

are you advertising on facebook?

Well - wonders never cease - I've had a sale on Etsy ! The last two weeks I have uploaded pictures and blogged on here, Twitter, Etsy and a few other sites I found. So I think thats the way forward for now and I can see on my Etsy shop stats that people are looking at my listing from the sites I blogged and Google.

Good idea with the christmas craft swap - I will keep my eye on that !!

I have neither the time or smarts to have my own website, lol.

I am working on my MISI, adding new items regularly, making sure I filling in as much information as possible, keeping my postage rates down and I have had loads of views which at first I took as a positive, but things seem to have slowed down a lot now and I am starting to loose a bit of faith, I suppose I was only born with a quarter of the usual quota of patience, naively I thought if my cards were good enough they would sell, but now I am surrounded by cards and haven't made any profit, lol.

I'm considering going round and offering an I will advertise you if you advertise me deal to anyone that will listen, lol.

It was quite easy to load everything up, I did it over the weekend but have not had any views so far. I have started to creat a Misi account this morning and have ordered a banner.

I've also noticed on Etsy when you check your shop stats it takes into account when you yourself view your account - whats the point in that. I'm currently having a conversation with someone in California and ordering something and its logged all the three times she has emailed me as interest in my account.

I did have my own stand alone website but you have to spend so much time working on content and SEO and it takes months/years before your website shows up anywhere reasonable on google searches ( people very rarely go past page 2 of a google search)

I'm going to reopen my eBay shop at the end of Oct and hopefully move all my already made up stuff on there.

Sorry - went into a bit of a rant there didn't I !!

Hi Stephanie, how are you getting on with folksy so far?
Comment by Stephanie Pearce on October 8, 2011 at 14:23

I am going to agree with you, I now use Etsy as a showcase for my stuff but sell far more by word of mouth and on eBay. I have just started listing on Folksy and opened an account on Misi.

At home we run 24+ business planning websites and my husband is always telling me you have to make sure your products come out on top of the searches ( key search words, use all tags, use all search words in title to give max exposure etc and make your descriptive wording such that people think they are getting something different from you that they cant get elsewhere.)

Good luck ! - your cards are fab by the way!!
