UK Handmade

Supporting and promoting the best UK artists, designers and makers

I have recently created an Etsy account and shop, but sadly just because it exists doesn't mean anybody knows about it, does anybody have any ideas on how I can promote it and get my name out there in the big wide world?

I am selling handmade cards which can be sold as seen or tailored to suit an individual, I am selling them in packs as to save the buyer on postage costs and give a real barain, i am charging just under five pounds a pack and  just under two pounds in postage as they have to be carefully wrapped before sending.

I have had a few views but no sales so far :(

Etsy is hard to sell in as its based in america, most of the sellers are from there, only a few from uk. I had one but closed it was waste of time, have you tried misi or folky both are uk based. I have had 1 sale on each, better than nothing lol

not an expert by any means, only been on etsy a couple of weeks.  Have you joined 'teams' and 'circles' and curated a treasury? thats fun.  My fave team is 'crafty folk' great bunch and very helpful.

Great advice from Erika there and I would add, start a blog and link to blogs you like and read.

Also add some work in progress photos to your blog, I love those!

It's hard to keep going when you don't get any feedback so post your makes here and on sites like flickr etc. not just to promote your shop but to keep your spirits up when things are tough.

And the best advice of all??................don't give up!

take care

Promoting an etsy shop is the same as promoting a website. Look for free business and shopping directories to add your shop to, like shopmania, shopwiki etc. Set up a business page on facebook where you can showcase your work. You can link this to your twitter account which saves time having to post on both. Like me you are in a very competative market so be patient as it can take a couple of years.
