A lovely commission

A couple of months ago I was asked to do the artwork for a singer songwriter from Lewisburg Pennsylvania. He'd spotted my work on Etsy and liked a piece I'd made. He was looking for an illustration for his album cover called 'Raincloud, Hang around'.

I was delighted to work with…

Favour for a friend

A dear friend is so excited about her upcoming wedding that I had to sit and make a small blue favour to pin to the inside hem of her wedding dress.  I am sure that this has been a tradition for a long time - maybe pinning a blue ribbon for good luck, fidelity and fortune! …

New Blog... new to UKhandmade... new to being a designer!

Hi, I've quite ridiculously got butterflies (or flutter-by's as my 3 year old daughter calls them) typing this as not only have I only just set up my blog Grace's Favours (as in, there's only 2 posts on there!) I've also not got involved in the UK Handmade forums before and in fact, if I'm being completely honest, I've only been designing and making things since August 2011!

So I suppose what I'm trying to…

Upcycled fabric heart brooch tutorial

I have blogged a tutorial for a simple, but pretty, handmade heart brooch over on my blog.

They make a great gift for valentines. Or you could make one for yourself to brighten up a jacket or cardigan. Alternatively you could make a batch of them to use as favors at an eco-themed wedding. When I have some spare time, I make a selection of these brooches and pop them in my customer’s parcels as an extra free gift. They are simple to make and you can use any colour combination of fabric…

SeventySeventyOne Design

I'm a big fan of SeventySeventyOne Design, her felt flower brooches are very distinctive. They take me back to a childhood memory of looking at the corsage brooches in Woolworths on a Saturday, thinking that they were lovely but that my mum would never let me have them because they were for grown-ups.

I own two 'flow' brooches - a primrose yellow one and a pale green one. When I wear them I always get lots of compliments.

Last month SeventySeventyOne Design lauched her Extra Large… Continue

armcandii at Southbank Bristol Arts Trail Saturday May 8th

armcandii joined young entrepreneur Arthur (aged 7) at his ‘pop-up’ café on Saturday May 8th for the Southbank Bristol Arts Trail.

Arthur was selling cakes & drinks to art lovers & snoopers of other people’s houses to raise money for Easton school’s ‘Easton Under Canvas’ project which takes pupils camping every summer.

armcandii set up in Arthur’s lounge having the privilege of using his mum’s beautiful inherited retro ‘bar’ as their ‘table’. Visitors supporting… Continue

White Felt and wedding favours

I've just finished knitting some snowy white yarn into sweet little pouches, I think they will make original wedding favour keepsakes to hold sugared almonds.

I like the symbolism of the 5 Almonds given to guests at wedding receptions. Each almond has a specific meaning - Health, Wealth, Happiness, Long Life or Fertility.

I smile to think how the bitterness of the almond and the sweetness of the coated candy are meant to reflect the… Continue

And then there were ....Brooches

Well I had high hopes of all the little flights of fancy but in the end they became the usual, brooches and cuffs.

I love making these little pieces , sculpting the felt with stiches and adding silk velvet applique. Having them as brooches and cuffs is a way to enable other people to enjoy them too.

affordable, wearable, portable ..Art.…

Orange is the new season colour!

Time to look at our autumn wardrobes, and how better to liven things up than with a felted bag in the new seasons colours? Orange, rusty red and tawny browns are very "in" this year.

I love these vibrant cheerful colours, I really enjoyed blending the wools to create these shades, I hope you like them too!

All of these bag are available in my ETSY shop…

Tiny, wee, cute, ickle little, shoulder bag!

A crafting friend helped me to come up with this idea, she suggested I make a neckpurse, you know the little purses just large enough for small change or your doorkeys? I played around for a bit and then made this sweet little shoulder bag, I'm just so happy with this design, the strap is long so you can wear it across your body, and it's just the right size for credit cards and change.

Bag height 11cm (4 1/4") from base to… Continue
