Upcycled fairytale dress for 6-year-old

Hi everyone,

If you're a mother of a young daughter then I'm sure you'll know just how much they love to dress up.

Instead of buying another princess/fairy dress I decided to make one using the top of one of my daughter's old dresses, and fabric from her bedroom valance * which hadn't been used in about a year *.

What made this dress quite different is that I made an overlay - or apron - to wear over the dress. It was made out of pale pink silk…

Button Charm Braclets

For my first ‘proper’ blog I’d like to introduce you to my button charm bracelets.   These came about because I inherited my Granny’s button collection when I was pregnant with my son.  I could remember playing with her collection when I was a kid and being really taken by all…

What is Reticulation?

Let me try to explain ... Perhaps it is best to start with an image (above) of a finished piece made using this technique.

The texture on the surface of this drop pendant is achieved with reticulation. Essentially this involves repeated heating of…

Artful Discoveries

I've just started a new occasional series on the blog, called Artful Discoveries. The idea is to share some of the art (and craft) projects I come across on my travels, which I think are particularly good. The first is a project for making mini mosaic Christmas Tree decorations using recycled…

What I get up to!

Well, after weeks of planning, designing and good old sewing, I have come up with a range of pure silk lingerie. This is one of the camiknickers, or teddies, which I particularly like due to the contrast between the red and black-

Cheap shop space

Hi,

There is a new gift shop called Mosaic near Nottingham and they rent out 1ft sections for £17 + vat per month + 5% commission. I think this is very reasonable when you think how much fairs etc cost. I rented a space their and those guys are really helpful and friendly. It just opened two weeks ago and there are still spaces free if anyone is interested. In the future they will organize workshops as well. For more details contact Mark 07887 650850 or Michael 07830 024508…

Knob of the day - I have been running a feature on our twitter page (@merlinglass) which has become very popular. Each day I post a picture of one of our lovely knobs whether it be for doors, furniture, kitchens or cupboards.

Today we feature the frosted glass whirl cupboard knob. A customer ordered 20 x 42mm frosted whirl cupboard knobs for her custom built wardrobes.

Guisborough craft fair

This coming Saturday you can find me at Guisborough craft fair, held at the town's community hall from 10am to 4pm. If you've never been to Guisborough its a pretty market town on the edge of North Yorkshire.

The town also boasts a priory, which is now just a ruin but also Guisborough Hall a Victorian mansion built in a Jacobean style. Saturday is also market day with many other local producers selling fresh produce in the town… Continue

Salamander - Spirit of Fire

Winter just had to be the right time of year for me to explore the element of FIRE.

With such a sudden cold snap upon us in Britain, the dancing flames of a roaring fire are an hypnotic distraction from the freezing temperatures outside and provide the inspiration for my latest project - Salamander, Spirit of Fire.

This piece is designed in sterling silver and combines 2.4mm sterling square wire with 1.5mm sterling sheet to… Continue
