Character bean bags for play/co-ordination/juggling and circus skills

There seems to be a need for children to lean the simple things in life again. When I was a kid I would amuse myself in the garden for hours with a bean bag and either a bucket or hula-hoop/ I would toss the bean bag at the target and if I scored a bullseye I would move the target two steps further away. My cat would sit and womder why I would do such a thing, but I found it fun.

As a small project I have made some character fabric bean bags that are for sale via ebay. I showed them… Continue

Fairy For Niah

This is a fondant fairy I made for my niece who is one on Christmas Eve. I was pleased with how she came out as I wanted a chubby fairy for a one year old rather than something more ethereal. I look at some Cicily May Barker illustrations for inspiration. I have some old annuals with gorgeous chubby children in.

I hand painted the sign as my piping skills are…

handmade stocking by surf jewels handmade jewellery

I made this little stocking this morning, nice and christmassy and perfect for the tree. I have made lots of little bits and pieces recently. I've made a fair few pairs of slipper socks, a hotwater bottle cover, some stockings and other things. I am working my way towards christmas. not long to go now! Glue, Glitter and Pinecones

I'm sure everyone has made glittery pinecones before at some time or another - after all they're not rocket science, but the idea is so simple, and we had so many pinecones that my elder son had collected, that I thought we'd make some. We have a very minimal, artificial twiggy tree, so I thought they'd look good hung on that, though I think they would also look good either individually or grouped together in a bowl, as table decorations (a considerably cheaper alternative to Kirsty's gilded… Continue

Handmade Christmas!

This year whilst trying to get my own little business off the ground money has been tight to say the least. Needless to say that when it came time to ask the girls how many presents they needed for friends this year after a large gulp I needed to get my thinking cap on. Normally I would just trundle off down to either superdrug or boots and buy something, however, budget constraints were not allowing that this year. So here is what I came up with for littlest child 10 cupcake brooches with… Continue

Just a weeeeeee bit busy....

It's been rather quiet here for me on UK Handmade; firstly because I lost the password (!!!) and secondly due to the fact that I have another blog directly on my sales site, called Hathor's Bath Scribe. However I rather like having several blogs out there so, I've created this one as well, though the importing feature doesn't work for beans.

The Xmess holidays have been productive if extremely tiring. Fibro/ME isn't kind, and even though I was exhausted I had to just keep going. I… Continue

Child Art Prodigies

Everyone loves the naivety and immediacy of children’s art, and will often joke that it is indistinguishable from the work of some well-known artists. But what if your child seems to have a genuine talent, what if in fact they appear to be a child prodigy?

Had a few fairs over the last few weeks. Got my very last one of 2009 tomorrow in Edinburgh. Fingers crossed for a super busy day so I can start 2010 afresh and not have a lot of stock leftover. I've brought back the Charm Necklaces after a few requests, still a few left although they are super popular.…
