Commission vs. Charging for space

I received this link in the Folksy forum where I had asked this same question about commission vs. charging for space.  Looks like they are going for it big time in London selling space.  This group must have a big grant or a lot of capital to cover London rent, rates and refurbing the entire shop!  It looks great.  I hope it works.  http://thingsbritish.co.uk/index.php?option=com

Handmade in Naples, Italy



Naples is also famous for it's handmade cameos, carved from shells they're prized for their detailing and beautiful depictions of Roman Gods and Goddesses. In one of the shops next to Pompeii we found this man diligently carving delicately away at the layers of shell. Watching him made you realise not just how difficult a craft it is but also how time consuming carving can be.

Running a High Street Shop of Handmades

I need feedback.  I'm considering taking on the lease of a high street shop to feature handmade items from local people.  Rather than risking over-pricing by adding a commission to each item sold, I was considering charging each artist/crafter a monthly fee for space in the shop with a very minimum commission taken on items sold, say 20%.  …
