Crafter, designer, maker or artist?

I prefer to be described as an artisan. I feel this term covers designing, making, creating and it has a nice ring to it as well :-)

About Me

Hi, I am Shalini Austin from Stamford, Lincolnshire.

I make unique, hand-crafted semi-precious gemstones, beads and pearl jewellery. My favourite medium is Wire and I really enjoy playing with different types of wire and letting it take it’s own course when I start wrapping it around a stone or bead. I mainly work with Sterling Silver and 14/20 Gold Filled Wire but have recently had a lot of fun with Coloured and plated Copper wire as well!

Each Jewellery By Shalini piece is unique and totally hand-crafted to create Pendants, Earrings, Bracelets, Necklaces and hair jewellery. I am also very happy to undertake bespoke orders for Weddings & Special Events like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Birthdays, Christmas etc.

The semi precious gemstones used in the jewellery have all been processed in our own workshop (run by my husband Dave of Stamford Lapidary) from rough. We cut the stones into suitable sizes for the different polishing and shaping processes – Tumble Polishing and as Cabochons on our in-house grinding and Polishing machine. The only exceptions are Cameos, beads and pearls which we do buy ready made from worldwide suppliers of these items.

I sell my jewellery on various Online Market places like Zolanta.com, misi.co.uk but this is my main website – www.jewellerybyshalini.co.uk

Planning a Craft Market….

is a lot of fun but can sometimes be quite scary as well! What if not enough people come, what if NO ONE comes?

In the initial few weeks of being involved in planning the Stamford Artisans Guild Christmas Craft Market I have been through the whole range of feelings….. from elation to despondency, from a rush of energy to complete exhaustion.

And now I am in a state of contentment because I know that we have worked hard to get the event publicised, the website is getting seen and local crafters… Continue
