Hello there! Im a new member & would love to join a group from the South West if there is one?! Im desperately trying to find good craft fairs to sell at in my area. Any suggestions? Im a bit tired of turning up at a fair only to find a handful of "crafters" & the rest are stalls selling cheap rubbish imported from China! Does anyone else have this problem? Id love to hear from you as all your experience will help me build up my business! Thanks Sarah x

Jarnie G said… Hi Sarah, don't sell yourself short, you have got some really great stuff going on here. I only started botanical painting a year ago. Have you joined the South Coast Artists and Crafters group?
Ana Benedicta said… Hi Sarah, I'm so pleased that you're enjoying being a part of UK Handmade; it' s a really supportive environment and I've found it an excellent place to make contact with other people who know exactly what I'm going through trying to make my creative efforts into something more than just an interesting past time. Making some good friends along the way is also a wonderful bonus :o)
I don't know Axmouth very well, although my other half says it is beautiful and there are some good pubs there! He grew up and went to school in Colyton, so knows the area a lot better than I do. It sounds idyllic being able to go for long walks with your dogs in such peaceful surroundings. I also have dogs (though mine are quite elderly now) and I do love taking them out on the New Forest for walks - it's only about 5 minutes away from where I live. No trouble with isolation there though, as there are always plenty of other walkers, horse-riders, and visitors wandering about the place!
So far I have really only sold my jewellery by word of mouth, although my new website will eventually have an online shop where visitors will be able to browse and buy or commission a piece. I do have a stockist in Colchester and am most likely to go further along this route - galleries and gift shops - rather than craft fairs, but it's early days to make any firm decisions.
Thank you for accepting my friend invitation here; it will be great to be able to catch up with what you're doing from time to time.
All the very best of luck with your endeavours!
