A lovely commission

A couple of months ago I was asked to do the artwork for a singer songwriter from Lewisburg Pennsylvania. He'd spotted my work on Etsy and liked a piece I'd made. He was looking for an illustration for his album cover called 'Raincloud, Hang around'.

I was delighted to work with…

Thoughts on 'Handmade'

Reading the letter to Mary Portas and her response has prompted me to post a few thoughts and questions here about handmade.

I work alone.

I don't make as many things as I can just for the sake of selling. I make things because I 'have' to..thats what creativity is about.

I embroider and thats the bit I like.

I hate the doing the construction and the finish of the items but it has to be done. They are handmade. By me. No one helps me and it takes time.

I'm not prepared… Continue

And then there were ....Brooches

Well I had high hopes of all the little flights of fancy but in the end they became the usual, brooches and cuffs.

I love making these little pieces , sculpting the felt with stiches and adding silk velvet applique. Having them as brooches and cuffs is a way to enable other people to enjoy them too.

affordable, wearable, portable ..Art.…

New colours

I am enjoying stitching on my handmade felt, and have at last moved away from my usual palette. I hope you enjoy the shapes and colours. These may become brooches or be grouped together in panels or on canvases.…

Felted with feeling

Navy is not my usual choice of colour for felt brooches but I like the pink stitching on the dark background.

Hey Jackie, thanks for your comment. I love your work, that fish up there is really lovely.
The craft fair I went to was billed as the worlds biggest art gallery and the art supermarket (which is where I was) and was in Craven Arms, Shropshire.

It was successful in the sense that I set up my stall, I did it, I put my handmade on the line for all to see.
It was unsuccessful because there wasn't really anyone to see it.
The few folk that attended really seemed to like my work, but no one bought a thing, not from me, and not really from anyone else.
My friend sold one pair of earrings all day.
Unfortunately by the end of the day it did seem that we were an after thought of the event, a box ticker to get funding for the project.
This might not have been the case, but we were lucky if we had 50 people pass through all day, as appose to the 2000 they claimed came last year.
I would have seen more people outside my own house.
Luckily the stalls were only £8, which maybe should have been a clue, but I thought I'd give it a go.
You cant win them all!

go to your etsy and in the options on the left of the screen right down at the bottom under promote select ETSY MINI.
you will be taken to a new page where you can select how big you want your Etsy Mini it will show you a preview below.

Then Scroll down to the bottom of the page and there will be some code boxes I believe I used the Flash code for this site.

Cut and paste the code into the text box on your page. and fingers crossed it should appear.

hope this all makes sense!
