Thanks for your interest in my profile picture! It's a miniature ( the whole thing with frame is 8 by 6 ) done by my brother Ian when I was 35 ( I'm 56 now! ) and I've always loved it.

No, I use a 10 mp digital camera (not SLR) and put it on Manual. Most cameras have this feature and then you need to adjust the lighting scenario (eg light, shade, tungsten etc) and then what is called 'sensitivity' which used to be the exposure on film (eg 200, 400, 800 etc). I then put it on Super Macro and define a pinpoint focus area. Sounds complicated but it really isn't. Then I download it to the PC and 'remove' all the shadows with something simple like 'Paint'.
I would love to find a local photographer that would do more 'glossy mag' photos though.
