Jewellery is becoming a diverse craft which bridges many disciplines. This group will allow jewellery designers and makers across the UK to talk to each other and support each other. And allow people who love jewellery to see what we do.

Leading on from my comment I would like to set up this area for showing off jewellery that has been made using birthstones. I know that different birthstone 'calendars' list different stones,…Continue

After using loads of clear and frosted beads in my work over the winter I now find myself longing to add colour to my work - orange, red, blue and teal are my favourites at the moment. So, what…Continue

Has anybody else tried this? I want to give up using shrink plastic and transfer my designs onto a different surface. I really like polymer clay and have started research/experimenting. Would be…Continue

Comment by Predominantly Print (Caro) on May 8, 2012 at 10:09 Hi Lorraine, I was reading a book last week called "Craft Business Heroes" and it tells you how long people have been running their businesses before it was considered "successful" enough to give up their day jobs/be financially independent etc etc. It seemed to average out at about 4-5yrs. I set up my own business just over a year ago and have had some amazing opportunities. The money isnt following yet but knowing that these things take a good while to happen means that I now dont feel frustrated and just keep plugging ahead. Go for it and good luck :)
Comment by Lorraine Jones on May 8, 2012 at 8:44 Hello there,
Just wondering - how many of you have made a career/living out of making and selling jewellery. I started my little venture when we were living in Cyprus (my husband is in the military so we move around a LOT which means my career has been a non-starter from the word go and over in Cyprus there was little opportunity to work) - anyhow I did quite well over there, probably because I used local materials, had a captive audience and sold over Xmas. Now we're back in the UK and I am looking for work. I was hoping I could make this my career - it would be a dream come true - but, although I consider it a success, it never did and I doubt ever will, earn enough to negate me getting a 9 to 5. Has anyone out there managed it? I was talking to a lady at a craft exhibition this weekend who advised I should look at it as a lucrative hobby - I guess this does sum it up. Just wondering (clutching at straws) whether anyone out there can prove that theory wrong! ;)
Comment by Rebecca New on May 7, 2012 at 17:12 Hi there, just saying hello as I have just joined this group. I'm based in the Portsmouth area, and have shops on Folksy and Misi. I make my pieces mainly with polymer clay, which I love using.
Hello everyone
I thought I would join you as I also make silver & gemstone jewellery which I sell on Folksy and Etsy. I also have a small cabinet in Hungerford Arcade in Berkshire which gives me a small presence in the high street so lost of folk can see my work. It all helps.
Have a great weekend
Theresa

Comment by Solace Designs (Shonel) on April 7, 2012 at 2:36 Hey all! I've managed to wrangle my way into getting a trial day at Greenwich Market! :D It will be next week on Tuesday 10th April. So if any of you who live in London or those of you who might be visiting London, please come down and have a look and lend your support. The market will be open from 10:00 - 5:30. I have to do well and impress the Market Manager and then I might be offered a stall on a casual basis. There's a lot of competition and they will be looking at everything! Stock, stall layout, ambience and design, interaction with public and everything else that goes with all that. So drop by and look out for 'Solace Designs.' Happy Easter x

Comment by Victoria Belcher (giddystuff) on March 14, 2012 at 21:42 Hello Victoria,
It may be worth contacting Paula (Newman) directly if you have any queries, i'm sure that there are lots of people who have a general card rather than an Etsy specific one, but check to make sure.
