UK Handmade

I was thinking the other day as I was passing a pub serving " home cooked" food.
What is the difference between home made and home cooked?
One is made entirely on the premises perhaps....and the other is bought in and cooked?
Just playing Devil's Advocate.....
Similarly...does hand made mean entirely Hand Made...no machine involved...?

Many things that are' hand made' are made by using, for example, a sewing machine.

If this is the case then can we say that clothes made for M&S are hand made too as they use machines? No...they are not one off's..so maybe not...but neither are some crafters' items. They too are replicated.

Any thoughts?

Well done...Anna
It has bugged me for a while this one too.

My stuff is so tiny it couldn't possibly be made by machine....in fact anything I do I hand sew...I don't get on with machines very well. But when I was in business proper, doing my Whimsicals there was a sort of production line..but I would like to think that they too were still Hand Made....at the very least hand assembled.

Like you say a mine field....Let's see what the others think.

I could make pottery without a machine but I prefer to produce wheel thrown forms so a wheel is my machine along with the kiln.

If I didn't have these tools I wouldn't be able to produce pottery in the way I like to, I tend to think of these machines as tools to assist me to a designated outcome. The pieces I produce were all produced by hand by me with the assistance of machines.

The key difference I think is the absence of the factory ethic, its something I enjoy doing I focus on quality and craftsmanship and rather than churning out pieces. I also don't have any molds or industrial processes so its just me.
Yes...I'll go with this Victoria.... the wheel is a tool and it's controlled by you...so you are in charge.
It takes skill to work this way I'm sure.
